History of RMIT University

Established in June 1887 by Francis Ormond, RMIT University began its journey as a working men's college. The main campus is located in the older portion of Melbourne city and boasts of a great heritage value. In 1934, its name changed to Melbourne Technical College. Finally, in 1960, the institution was recognised as the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
